Our Grading System
Uechi-Ryu grading systems vary around the world, with different organisations adopting their own belt colours and ranking structures over time. We have chosen to keep our grading system as close as possible to the traditional Okinawan Hozonkai system taught by Grandmaster Takehiro Gaja.
While some belt colours and progression may differ from other Uechi-Ryu organisations, this structure is intended to stay aligned with the Okinawan Hozonkai curriculum and grading approach. Each grade marks assessed progress in the knowledge, technical skill and understanding required by this organisation before a student advances.

Place the grading structure in context by reading the history of Uechi-Ryu Hozonkai in Australia, visiting the Uechi-Ryu Karate FAQ, or finding an Australian dojo. See our editorial and sources policy for information about review and corrections.
